Hello and welcome to my website,
My name is Jacquie and I create willow sculptures, as well as other artworks, from my home in Southampton, Hampshire. I love creating and sharing my passion for creating with others and so as well as creating my own work, I also work on bespoke projects, creating commissions as well as offering a variety of workshops.
Like most other artists, creativity has always been part of my life, however in my family art was seen as a hobby and not a proper job, so I ended up following my interest working in community engagement roles. It wasn’t long before I found that I was naturally using my creative skills to help me to connect with others and using this as a tool to encourage people to connect with others and develop in confidence, In fact, it was with there encouragement that in 2006 I made the choice to start working part-time and started my own art workshop business.
In the beginning, I taught various crafts and I went from strength to strength providing large art participation projects, coordinating and training students to assist me to coordinate large events such as lantern parades, creating large art murals, etc as well as offering many different workshops.
Meanwhile, in 2008 I took part in a willow activity at a music festival and that was it caught the bug and started my journey to becoming a willow sculpture. I just love working with willow and other natural materials, using skills and techniques rooted in ancient traditions as well as discovering and finding my own way of working myself.
So what am I up to now, well normally I would be very busy running activities and showing my artwork at events and exhibitions and so like many of us who have had to make changes it has been an interesting time.
As I don’t have my own venue I am reliant on using other premises so in the beginning, this was not possible, So I started offering online workshops via Zoom which has been an interesting and fun experience.
I restarted my workshops using a couple of venues that are suitable and I am interested in considering other venues if there is enough interest.
Participants who come to my workshops attend for a variety of reasons including, learning a new craft, taking time out for themselves, having fun with others, a special treat, curiosity, etc. I can never say how quickly someone will take to the craft everyone’s different and some people take to it quickly while others may take longer to get to grip with the basics, for me, it’s all about having fun.
Bespoke special outdoor workshops
Sometimes we just want to do things a bit differently and get away to somewhere that is quite special. I am pleased to be able to share that I now have access to two stunning outdoor venues which are ideal for that special occasion and bespoke workshop outside. Selling my wares
I have already relaunched my shop space which shows both my willow and some of my other artwork. Many of the shows that I was booked onto were canceled which was so sad, thankfully Art Galleries, exhibitions, and art fayres are starting to reopen, So my first exhibition this year was at the Yellow Edge Gallery in Gosport I rook part in the Hampshire Open Art Studion in August if your interested in finding our what I am up to then check out my events page. Also, you may be interested in visiting my own artwork page.
I really miss meeting people and so I have been looking forward to being out and about again. I am pleased to say that I will be attending a variety of events the first being a new bi-monthly art and craft fair in Stockbridge with the South Central makers in Stockbridge Town Hall.
If I can help in any way do get in touch you never know what is possible.
