Creating reusable art at the Pumpkin Festival

Supporting my lovely fellow volunteers with Southampton Scrapstore a project that Is right the core of recycling and recreating activities, those  of you who follow my posts will now that Ive been a major supporter of this fantastic project. We had a fantastic day at the Pumpkin Festival today and the shelter coped with the weather, We chatted to lots of new people as well as meeting old friends. This year with lack of troops on the ground we decided to try something different and create a giant artwork using scrap which could then be taken apart and reused.
The images show the blanks boards that we started with and the final collage.Which was based in a ww1 solder standing  in a poppy field

Making Dragon Puppets at the D@rt

IMG_1912I spent a lovely day teaching children aged 8+ how to make a dragon puppet out of recycled materials such as milk bottles and old ribbon tape. at the D@rt Centre in Hedge End.    I have been running regular Thursday Big Art days during the school holidays for several years now it is always interesting coming up with different ideas , sometimes I provide structured activities such as making mosaics or making a willow lantern , on other days I provide a much relaxed activity enabling the children to develop an idea themselves.

Eastleigh the four seasons mural project December 12

We have now completed the Eastleigh Mural project just in time for Christmas.

The  four panel design is now up and I am ready to take a well earned rest just in time for Christmas , it has been so lovely to receive  positive comments  from local residents they have been a great talking point for families living nearby who have loved the color and different things to look at  a great talking point for families with young children in particular, as with all projects that involve the community you are never quite sure what reception you might receive.

Getting ready for my scarecrow workshop

picture of me bagging straw Last weekend I decided that as it had been raining for days it would be best of I brought my bale of straw in from my van to bag it up in my kitchen ready for my scarecrow workshop tomorrow, its amazing how much straw you get in a bale I made up nearly 7 bin liners and amazingly the bale only cost me £4 directly from the farm  and just to think a standard bag of straw from a pet shop costs nearly as much.

Here are some of the scarecrows we made .
